Rear view of the Waterloo Hotel. Photographer would have stood on the corner where Threshers off-license is now located. Pictures taken of this aspect of the site are rare.

On August 26th 1919 at approximately 3am the Waterloo Hotel burned down.

It is rumoured that the bedsheets hanging from the windows were used by patrons to escape the blaze.

The Kings Hall was erected on the site of the defunct Waterloo Hotel in 1934. Originally called The Municipal Hall & Palm Court it was renamed after George V visited Aberystwyth in 1935.

The modern Llys Y Brenin development was completed in 1996. Housing The Kings Hall Restaurant & Carvery and other retail outlets in the ground floor and private apartments above.
