On August 26th 1919 at approximately 3am the Waterloo Hotel burned down.
It is rumoured that the bedsheets hanging from the windows were used by patrons
to escape the blaze.

The Kings Hall was erected on the site of the defunct Waterloo Hotel in 1934.
Originally called The Municipal Hall & Palm Court it was renamed after George
V visited Aberystwyth in 1935.
